Sweet and Sour Chili

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

A couple of weeks ago I posted a recipe for a pot of chili I made. It turned out really well and I was hoping to eventually make a video of me making it. I finally got the chance to and here it is. It’s a sweet an sour chili with a lot of ingredients.

Sweet & Sour Chili

In the video I make enough to feed a family of 5 for an entire week. So remember you’ll have to make less if you’re not planning on eating that much chili!

The rough estimate cost of this meal is $20. Unfortunately I don’t have all the receipts because I didn’t do all of the shopping. $20 might sound like a lot but it’s actually a good price when you consider how much chili I made. If you’re not planning on making as much, you’re cost will be significantly lower. $20 is the cost of the Rotel tomatoes, chili beans, ground beef, Hunt’s chili sause, sweet & sour sauce, tomato sauce, onions and green peppers. The other ingredients are ingredients I usually have on hand. Your cost may be more if you don’t have the other ingredients.

Sweet and Spicy Meatloaf

Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

A favorite meal of mine is meatloaf with mashed potatoes and corn. I thought I would prepare a meatloaf and record how I make it for everyone to enjoy. It’s a sweet and spicy meatloaf with a whole pantry inside of it, even something to help you get rid of it later! It’s a very yummy dish and I hope you enjoy the video.

I apologize to those of you who do not like longer videos. This one goes on for about 20 minutes. It could have very easily went on for 40 minutes but I trimmed it down quite a bit. I really did enjoy doing this one.

Oh and you may also notice that I have a new name for these cooking videos, “Cooking with Andy.” I have decided instead of starting multiple videocasts/podcast sites that I would essentially make Andy Not Andrew a “production company” (if you can call it that) and do multiple shows on this one blog and just differintiate them with a category.

Gobstopper Break

Friday, June 15th, 2007

Another raw video. I talk about what I’m eating (gob stoppers), the book I’m reading (The Men From The Boys), my meds and manufactured homes. It’s another raw video. Nothing fancy. Hope it’s of decent quality.

They Lurk Everywhere

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

So this evening I get my shoes on to go outside and water the garden. I walk over to the outdoor water spigot and start filling up the buckets. I then start to walk onto the porch and into the room where I keep the watering bucket and my gloves. I didn’t make it that far. I saw a snake. I immediately marched right over to my cousin’s house across the road and ask if he’d like to come kill a snake. He gets his gun and he comes over. Can’t kill it with a gun because it’s on the wall behind the steps below the front door. So he had to find a big stick and smash it’s head in. Well. It finally stopped squirming around and he pulled the stick away, it stayed where it was for a minute but while they went to find something to get it off the porch with it fell behind the steps and probably it’s nerves moved it into the indention of the porch steps (they’re hollow). SO. There is a dead snake on our porch until Dad and my younger brother get home tomorrow to remove it.

Now I’m scared to death to go to the bathroom, into my sister’s room and now also scared to sit on the porch steps which is where I usually set with Brownie (my oldest dog).

I HATE THEM! I cannot stand them! I need to move to a place where they are extremely unlikely to be! I HATE SNAKES! Needless to say, the garden did not get watered this evening! It’s also time to put out some more mothballs!

State of Atrophy

Friday, June 8th, 2007

The other night I talked with a friend that I had not talked to in quite a while. This conversation made me realize how much I have changed and how much I would like to, if possible return to the state of mind that I was in a year earlier. I feel as though the the state of mind that I am in is atrophied, numb and just going one day to the next. I need excitement and passion again. This is a scripted video of my thoughts on this and the blog I started and maintained known as De-Atrophication of the Brain.

Big Fat Loser

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

Since I haven’t done a personal video journal entry in a while I figured this would be a great time to do one since I got home from the doctor about an hour and a half ago and got some good news while I was there! Just a quick video, nothing fancy, pretty raw.

Tater Cakes

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

My grandmother use to come and stay with us while my Dad and step Mom were at work. She was essentially the baby sitter. She helped out around the house, cooked for us since we were too young to cook. I remember her making these and I always really enjoyed them. I haven’t made them in a while and today I decided to make some.

Tater Cakes

Ingredients:

  • Leftover mashed potatoes (cold)
  • Flour
  • Butter

Take the leftover mashed potatoes and pat them out like you would a hamburger, not as big though. Then take the potato cake patty and roll it around in the flour, making sure you coat it pretty good. You may have to flatten it out again once you are done. Once you do that put the potato cake in a skillet with butter already melted. Make sure you don’t turn the skillet up too high, you don’t want to burn it. A medium heat will work best for this. Brown it like you would a grilled cheese.

Once they are done plate them up and you can either have them with salt and pepper or if you really want to try something different, put some jelly on top of them. They make an excellent lunch item.
