The Drive Home

Part of this video is a couple of weeks old (the sunny part) and the dark, dreary, rainy part is from this past weekend. If you’re wondering why it seems like it was from two different days, that is why.

Caution

The title for this video isn’t completely accurate. It’s not a complete drive home. I just take you to the Presbyterian Church in Lancing. I hope the video quality is bearable. I wish I had a better camera, one with stabilization!

I hope you enjoy the song in this video, I really did. The best part about the song is that the artist licensed it song under a Creative Commons license. The artist is Jamison Young and the song is “Top of the Hill.”

Oh. Also. If you like the Creative Commons image that I added at the end of the video, feel free to take it from here. I’m posting it, too, because I had been looking for one so I finally just made one. I realize now I should have made it bigger since I released the video in a larger format. Oh well, I’ll do it the next time.

I’ve watched this vid-jo 3 times already this morning — Fantastic video, one of your best, IMHO. And that background soundtrack/song was so perfect. I’m downloading it right now.

The rain drizzling down the outside of the car window was awesome. The skinny little 2-lane roads, the creeks and rivers, all the trees — your neck of the woods bares a lot of resemblance this neck of the woods I live in. Except yours looks a little more green and lush. We haven’t had any real rain for a couple months.

    Keep it up Andy.

Tim - Thanks, Tim. I appreciate your comments. I got your email the other day and I’ve been a lazy whore about replying, I apologize! I am working on a journal video entry. I have recorded it twice. Don’t like how either turned out, so, I am going to re-do it today! Hopefully! Anyways. I really loved that song so much. I keep listening to it over and over. It’s been dry here as well. It hasn’t rained that much. Wells around here are going dry, people are having to buy water. I guess I’d better run along and do that video. Thanks again.

WOW!!!! That was amazing! I loved the pix and that song was REALLY cool. Great job, I’m really impressed!

Bean - Thanks for stopping by! I am really glad you liked the video and the song. I really enjoyed the song as well and am really glad everyone else did as well. Thank you.

I am writing here, not because of the high quality of this video (which it was, loved it) but rather because Andy guilted and shamed me into writing this.

  6. Andy Melton Says:

Christiaan Huygens - Thank you. That’s all I wanted. LOL.

Great video, Andy. Is that metal bridge a pedestrian bridge? Looked too small to be a train bridge. And the footage of the rain on the car window is really nice. It rains so rarely here that I had almost forgotten what that looks like.

I wonder if this type of video has a proper genre description? I’ve often thought that there should be a website devoted strictly to videos like this. I’ve got about an hour of footage of my own that’s similar to this. Someday, I’ll edit it down into something watchable.

Shawno - The metal bridge was actually a car bridge. It was getting really old so they built the new bridge a few years ago. They were actually going to remove the old bridge but they dedicated it to the Cumberland Trail, or something like that. I was at the dedication ceremony. I am pretty sure I have pictures of it. I was in high school at the time and I think I took the school’s camera. I’m not for sure. I think I backed up all the ones I took in high school from their server before I left there in December 2002. I just need to find where I put them!

I am glad you enjoyed the video. I liked it a lot as well. It’s one of my favorite videos of my own. I think the rain really does something for the video. I know it’s a bit early but I would really like to make another one similar to this. This time use a tripod while I record. Maybe I might have a better camera, too. Doubt it, lol. But. Maybe.

Thanks for your comment. Look forward to seeing a new video from you soon!

  9. Shawno Says:

Don’t discount the quality of your camera, Andy. I think the image quality of your videos is just fine.

And how could you set up the tripod in the car? Seems like it might be tough. I think it’d be cool to get one of those things that storm chasers use, so that the camera is always stable, regardless of the motion of the car.

  10. Andy Melton Says:

Shawno - I have to say that I don’t think the quality of my videos is all that terrible. The only problem that I have with my camera is that the lens is not wide enough which means not enough light can get into the camera. There are a lot of videos that I have done that I just don’t like simply because they’re too dark. Maybe I should just invest in better lighting! Would be a lot cheaper! I have a wide angle add-on lens, I may try using it for a video or two and see how well it does. I got an idea for a video project a few minutes ago. I’m making notes for it so I don’t forget what I wanted to do since I won’t be able to do it for a few days.

I wouldn’t have to set the tripod up completely. Just use it at it’s lowest height (with all the legs collapsed). I don’t know if it would help any or not. It would be really cool to be able to have video footage where the camera was steady and the car was going around curves. That would be awesome.

  11. Shawno Says:

I want to mount the camera onto the bumper or something. Cumooon!
