Patience Is A Virtue

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

I generally don’t do audio posts. I got requests from a few people wanting updates from me and I tried doing a video journal, twice, but it just wasn’t working out. So I instead turned to my iRiver and made an audio recording. It’s rather raw, probably very boring so I apologize from the get-go.

Me

Like I said this is the first audio recording I have done in a while, so if the audio quality is really horrible. I don’t apologize. If you think I should stick to doing video entries, then go to Rebecca Nay that she was right

The Drive Home

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

Part of this video is a couple of weeks old (the sunny part) and the dark, dreary, rainy part is from this past weekend. If you’re wondering why it seems like it was from two different days, that is why.

Caution

The title for this video isn’t completely accurate. It’s not a complete drive home. I just take you to the Presbyterian Church in Lancing. I hope the video quality is bearable. I wish I had a better camera, one with stabilization!

I hope you enjoy the song in this video, I really did. The best part about the song is that the artist licensed it song under a Creative Commons license. The artist is Jamison Young and the song is “Top of the Hill.”

Oh. Also. If you like the Creative Commons image that I added at the end of the video, feel free to take it from here. I’m posting it, too, because I had been looking for one so I finally just made one. I realize now I should have made it bigger since I released the video in a larger format. Oh well, I’ll do it the next time.

Presswood/Potter Reunion 2007

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

Today was the annual Presswood/Potter family reunion. I don’t remember when the tradition started. We’ve been having these reunions every year ever since I can remember. I’m sure they were happening before I was born. A long time ago when I was much younger these reunions would take place at Charles’ house, my Mamaw Ruby’s brother. The reunions are now held at the church out the road from my house.

Two Ola's

I tried to record some of the stories that people were telling. I’m going to start recording more things like this when I get the opportunity to, hopefully more audio with the iRiver, too. Lately, I feel this need to archive everything so that when I’m old and gray I’ll have things to look back on. I feel as though my generation has access to all sorts of technology that the older generation did not have access to. I think I should put it to use and record history.

Speaking of recording history. If you’d like to see the photos from this event you can look at them here.

Independence Day 2007

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Another raw video. I felt like talking about my thoughts on and of Independence Day, especially this year. I talk about my thoughts on the digusting commutation that President George W. Douche gave to Scooter Libby.

If you’re interested in doing a video for MikeyPod, and you really should so he can win, here are the instructions I had read off in my video:

  • Go to Podcast Ready, sign up, even if you’re not going to use the service. Use the promo code “mikeypod”
  • Make a video of you saying “I love podcast ready”, send it to MikeyPod
  • If you make a video and you make it funny and say what you love about Podcast Ready, MikeyPod will get more points.
  • If MikeyPod wins, one of the people who registered using the promo code “MikeyPod” will receive a new iPod.
  • Upload to YouTube and send the link to MikeyPod
  • If you upload the video to YouTube yourself it should be tagged with “mikeypod”, “100kplay” and “podcasting”
  • Email the link to mikeypod@gmail.com
  • July 31st is the deadline
  • MikeyPod’s YouTube, Website, Email

In the video I also talk about: my family shooting fireworks and spending way too much money, the health benefits of Earl Grey tea, photography contest I’m going to be entering with my sister, website projects, donations, Steve Harris & Feeder.

For those of you who don’t like longer videos, I apologizie. This video is 39 minutes long and it’s also got a nice fat file size. I apologize if either of those are inconveniences to anyone, I just really needed to talk, I suppose!

I Love Podcast Ready

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

MikeyPod asked me to make a video for him. He’s entered a contest with Podcast Ready. If he gets selected, Podcast Ready will ship their software out with his podcast already pre-subscribed. That would mean a lot more listeners for MikeyPod and he deserves them! I hope he wins. The video I sent in to MikeyPod is here. I went ahead and done some more videos and decided to make a full on video, trying to be fun/funny/silly, etc.

Oh! Almost forgot! Here’s the video that MikeyPod did. He’s requesting more people make clips of them saying “I Love Podcast Ready” so he can win this contest!

Gobstopper Break

Friday, June 15th, 2007

Another raw video. I talk about what I’m eating (gob stoppers), the book I’m reading (The Men From The Boys), my meds and manufactured homes. It’s another raw video. Nothing fancy. Hope it’s of decent quality.

They Lurk Everywhere

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

So this evening I get my shoes on to go outside and water the garden. I walk over to the outdoor water spigot and start filling up the buckets. I then start to walk onto the porch and into the room where I keep the watering bucket and my gloves. I didn’t make it that far. I saw a snake. I immediately marched right over to my cousin’s house across the road and ask if he’d like to come kill a snake. He gets his gun and he comes over. Can’t kill it with a gun because it’s on the wall behind the steps below the front door. So he had to find a big stick and smash it’s head in. Well. It finally stopped squirming around and he pulled the stick away, it stayed where it was for a minute but while they went to find something to get it off the porch with it fell behind the steps and probably it’s nerves moved it into the indention of the porch steps (they’re hollow). SO. There is a dead snake on our porch until Dad and my younger brother get home tomorrow to remove it.

Now I’m scared to death to go to the bathroom, into my sister’s room and now also scared to sit on the porch steps which is where I usually set with Brownie (my oldest dog).

I HATE THEM! I cannot stand them! I need to move to a place where they are extremely unlikely to be! I HATE SNAKES! Needless to say, the garden did not get watered this evening! It’s also time to put out some more mothballs!

State of Atrophy

Friday, June 8th, 2007

The other night I talked with a friend that I had not talked to in quite a while. This conversation made me realize how much I have changed and how much I would like to, if possible return to the state of mind that I was in a year earlier. I feel as though the the state of mind that I am in is atrophied, numb and just going one day to the next. I need excitement and passion again. This is a scripted video of my thoughts on this and the blog I started and maintained known as De-Atrophication of the Brain.

Big Fat Loser

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

Since I haven’t done a personal video journal entry in a while I figured this would be a great time to do one since I got home from the doctor about an hour and a half ago and got some good news while I was there! Just a quick video, nothing fancy, pretty raw.

Don’t Quit

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

When I was much younger we would have family dinners at my Mamaw Ruby’s house. During the summer months there would be a really good desert that I really loved. It was walnut cake. It didn’t have any icing on it but it was SOO good. It’s been years since I’ve had it. The other day I was sitting in my room thinking about how good a piece of it would be.

For a couple of weeks now I’ve been thinking about picking up a wall clock. I’d like to have one so when I’m working on a project for someone in a different time zone I can know what time it is there. I have a Firefox plugin for this, but, it’s much easier to just look up at a clock.

Last night I needed to go and get some water from my Mamaw Ruby’s house. We also needed to take some fish eggs down to my Grandma & Papaw’s house. They eat them, I don’t see how. They don’t look very appetizing. Anyways. Before we went to get water we went ahead and took those eggs down there and they were just getting back from my Mamaw’s house. They were out there going through some of her things. Pulling things of value out, just in case something was to happen to the house. It wouldn’t surprise me if the house is over a hundred years old. It may be younger, but, it’s definitely old!

Back to my point. When my sister and I went into my grandparents house my grandma asked me if I wanted a piece of walnut cake. Also, a few minutes later my grandpa asked me if I needed a clock.

The cake was really good. It wasn’t the same type I remember having when I was younger because it had icing on it. The clock was one they found in my Mamaw Ruby’s house. It was still in the box, never opened. It’s in the shape of a book. On the left side is the clock, in the middle there is a ribbon for a bookmark and then on the right side is a poem:

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, but don’t quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns, As everyone of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about, When he might have won had he stuck it out; Don’t give up though the pace seems slow, You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out, The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far; So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit, It’s when things seem worse, that you must not quit.

Things like this make you wonder, if not realize that there is something out there watching out for you.
